Today in London, Amend's Safe Schools Africa program won the 2024 Premier Award at the annual Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards. Of this year's 22 award winners, Safe Schools Africa was judged by the expert panel of road safety professionals to be the "most outstanding winner of the year."

Of this year's 22 award winners, Safe Schools Africa was judged by the expert panel of road safety professionals to be the "most outstanding winner of the year."

In partnership with the FIA Foundation, the Agence française de développement we have installed lifesaving infrastructure at two schools in Thiès, Senegal where children are at high risk of road traffic injury, and today we cut the ribbon.  Check out a video.

Last Friday we cut the ribbon on brand new, lifesaving infrastructure at Kayole One Primary School in Nairobi, Kenya where four children have been killed and injured on the roads recently. Speed bumps, sidewalks and signage save lives. Check out a video.

Key initiatives focus on pedestrian infrastructure, motorcycle safety, and community partnerships, aiming to improve transport conditions for all as Tanga faces rapid economic and population growth.

Amend launched Safe Schools Africa with €1M funding to scale lifesaving school area safety across Sub-Saharan Africa. Partnering with the FIA Foundation, World Bank, and others, this initiative aims to build safer roads for children while promoting sustainable, people-centered design in major infrastructure projects.
For over 15 years, filmmaker Alex Berberich has documented Amend’s mission, capturing lives impacted by school safety improvements across Africa. From Zambia to Ghana, his videos reveal the deep connections formed on site and the life-saving impact of Amend’s work to protect vulnerable children on their journeys.
COVID-19 lockdowns gave us a rare view of road use in Tanzania, Ghana, and Mozambique. Fewer cars meant less traffic but increased reckless driving.
