Kids’ Court is in session
In Maputo, Mozambique, Kids’ Court allows young schoolchildren to hold drivers accountable for traffic violations near schools. Stopped by police, drivers face the children’s questions, pledging to drive safely. This memorable experience spreads road safety lessons from classrooms to families and communities, impacting driver behavior and saving lives.

Amend receives the Prince Michael of Kent Road Safety Award
In December 2018, Amend received the Prince Michael of Kent International Road Safety Award for our SARSAI program, which was praised as ‘a fine example of an effective research-based approach.’ The award ceremony at The Savoy featured royal hospitality, recognizing our work to improve road safety for vulnerable road users.
Launch of our powerful new French report, Un grand pas en avant
In November 2018, we launched “Un grand pas en avant”, a new report on child pedestrian safety in Francophone Africa, with Zoleka Mandela and transport ministers from across Africa. The report, developed with the FIA Foundation and HI Federation, highlights low-cost interventions to reduce road risks and protect children on their way to school.
Safe infrastructure saves lives, and we’ve proved it
Our rigorous study, conducted with the CDC, proves that our SARSAI program saves lives. Published in Injury Prevention, it shows a 26% reduction in injuries and a 58% drop in head injuries at schools in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. SARSAI is now the first program proven to reduce road traffic injuries in sub-Saharan Africa.
